Cultural Geography Travels to Jamaican Restaurant 

The Cultural Geography class ate lunch on Tuesday, October 24th at Jamaican restaurant Reggae Reggae Vibes in North Philly. The class is studying cultural landscapes, including the food, architecture and clothing of different countries and regions, and voted on Jamaican food for their lunch out. They ate oxtail, goat curry, jerk chicken, plantain, and tried sorrel (Jamaican hibiscus drink), tropical punch and ginger punch.
Art Club Gets in the Halloween Spirit

This past Wednesday, Archmere's Art Club hosted its first Halloween Pumpkin Carving Party! The Art department provided the pumpkins, carving supplies and snacks and about 30 students attended. The kids had so much fun getting ready for the spooky season and spending time with their fellow Auks. 

Music Teachers National Association Student Competitions

MTNA held the Delaware state music competitions at the University of Delaware on October 29, 2023. Grace Chen ’24 was awarded second place (alternate) for Senior Performance Piano, performing works by Beethoven, Ravel, and Chopin. Zimo Liu ’25, with his partner Jessica Li, was named winner of the Senior Piano Duet. The duo performed works by Mendelssohn and Stravinsky. Daniel Qi ’26, violin, will be the state representative to the Eastern Region competition. Winners and representatives advance to the next level of the MTNA three tiered competitions, to be held virtually this coming December. These Archmere students and other winners are invited to perform as a part of the awards recital at the Delaware State Music Teachers Association convention, held at 3:00 PM on November 4 in the Patio.

“Up and Coming” Helena Raskob Arts Institute Student Recital

The HRAI general student recital features performances of Archmere students engaged in music lessons through the HRAI or separately with a private music teacher. Seven pianists, two harpists, six singers, two violinists and the wonderful HRAI String Ensemble will present their best prepared performance selections for the Archmere community on Friday November 3, 7:30 PM in the Courtyard of the Patio. The recital is free and open for all to attend.

Faculty Members Participate in Mark Dombroski Memorial 5K / 2 mile Walk

On Sunday, October 22, the third annual Mark Dombroski Memorial 5K / 2 mile Walk took place in Media, Pennsylvania. Archmere Athletic Trainer Katy Sturdivant and Math Teacher Lynne Fowler participated in this annual fundraiser for the Mark Dombroski Foundation, in honor of the 2017 Archmere graduate. Katy placed second overall among all women.

Proceeds from the race, along with donations from Middletown Township and the Mark Dombroski Foundation, help benefit fundraising opportunities for the Mark Dombroski Memorial Park. “Mark’s Park” will be an accessible playground at the Roosevelt Community Center, site of the Middletown Free Library in Middletown (Delco), PA.
